Jefferson, Madison, others?

They wouldn't have had an opportunity to do such "high and mighty" things if courageous, PERSECUTED CHRISTIANS fleeing religious oppression - not fighting it.

They came to this continent ill-prepared and poorly armed; easy prey for hostile Indians.

But by dealing fairly and honestly with the locals, they established peace treaties that outlived the authors by 2 generations.

It was a profoundly spiritual venture into the new world, and Jefferson and Adams and the other founding fathers might never have existed had the colonization of American been limited to the temperate middle Atlantic zone.

It was only because colonies were able to spread to the less-temperate 'New England' and the sweltering deep south did the crown see the worth in committing resources to exploration and development of the New World.

The rest, as they say, is 'Rock 'N Roll'.
