Re. Translation of the verses

I wasn't intending to mislead anyone, I was simply paraphrasing the verses rather than providing full translations. Anyway, I agree tha the Uzair reference- while sometimes identified with Ezra- may not actually be referring to him for the reasons you outline. Also yes, you are right regarding Tabari's explanation of the verse 9:31.

I guess in future when I come back to these comment threads I should do more direct translations. Thanks for the response.
