Global Alliance of Democracies (GLAD)Reader comment on item: Do NATO and Turkey Have a Future Together? Submitted by Robert (United States), Sep 27, 2022 at 15:50 Dear Dr. Daniel Pipes, I was GLAD to read this article; I was thinking of similar idea for many years. And just today I read this important article by you. Aside from criticizing NATO regarding its alliance with Turkey with the possibility of NATO 2.0, you playfully propose: "Global Alliance of Democracies (GLAD)." However, you obvious did not take this idea of yours seriously. You present it merely as a "creative idea." I urge, and hopeful inspire you to invest more time into this possibility. What you propose, somewhat unintentionally, is a competing institution to the United Nations, and that would be a much more powerful and effective institution, as well as an alternative to NATO. In the context of BREXIT, and Russia's "Special Military Operation" in Ukraine" you, Dr. Daniel Pipes, are in an ideal position to make this proposal much more seriously. Further, I recently read in your latest book review of one of your MEF colleagues that Muslim al Azhar University in Cairo, Egypt, effectively hosts the Muslim Brotherhood, even though Egypt's President is against this institution which he acknowledges has been a yoke on Egypt's neck for over 90 years. How President Obama, and his CIA, failed to catch that and take it easy with Democracy in Sisi's Egypt, I cannot fathom. However, it seems that President Biden is continuing Obama's blindness, if that's what it was. Consequently, your GLAD international organization should have a second-class - for those countries who are not yet Democracies, or have not yet separated Mosque and State. Incidentally, I do not know if there is any Muslim-majority country that does not have Sharia as a constitutional basis of its legal system? At the core of your proposal is the wonderful suggestion of joining the most important democracies in a Union: US, EU, UK (& its Commonwealth), NATO, and ISRAEL. What a great alliance that would be, and a true competitor to the UN where Russia now has the Veto power over Ukraine. Thank you, but I am writing a book, so will pass on this now. Reader comments (24) on this item
