Readers are urged to read "Beautiful Country" by Qian Julie Wang. Her memoir of growing up in N.Y. as an "undocumented" child, is a wonderfully erudite and insightful story, which presents a completely different picture of America. It highlights the importance of individual/personal motivation, effort and responsibility in overcoming a myriad of significant challenges (which I estimate were far greater than Ali-Kahn's).
