Left Wing (and What About China)?Reader comment on item: Fighting the Last War Submitted by Robert (United States), Oct 16, 2022 at 22:32 Your Review at the very least inspires one to study the issues raised more carefully. I too find it strange to label Islamist on the Right - it certainly belongs on the Left. After World War Two the USA emerged with two problematic issues: Racism and Communism. Both were more or less (more rather than less) resolved with the successful Civil Rights Movement and legislation under Pres. Johnson in the 1960's and the ultimate election of an African (but non-slave roots) American President Obama. Nevertheless, "Victim-hood" became an alleged issue which infiltrated the Democratic Party. Regarding Communism, by 1992 the Soviet Union collapsed of its own accord - but was replaced by Communist-Capitalist China. A consequence of this Victim-hood is - for the African American demographic cohort - to side with anyone deemed to belong to the "Oppressed." There are many political consequences of this phenomena, but the one relevant to our concern involves our constitutional provision embodying Freedom of Religion, and our minority Muslim and Palestinian population. Muslims are a minority. Therefore they are oppressed victims almost automatically. Ironically, it was a non-Muslim Christian Palestinian anti-Orientalist who institutionalized this phenomena in 1978 - namely Edward Said. It was his (literary criticism) book, "Orientalism," and his audience, the American Academy, which spread the victim-hood of "orientals" throughout the West. So, for example, (Western) Israel is "bad" while Palestinians are "the good guys." China and Russian, on the other hand, have been by far most "successful" in wiping out all "Muslim" resistance of any kind - Russia by the extremely violent Chechen War and China thought its Concentration Camps with a Million Muslims in Western China. I hypothesize that current events in Israel and Iran will soon minimize or neutralize Islamism as the major threat to the West. And at the same time the Right Wing "Civilization Parties" (your term) in Europe will wake up to their own Islamist minorities now that Putin open his own "Russian Empire" Pandora's Box. Not only are these extreme right wing Nazi-like parties relatively insignificant, but they are merely the excrement of the emerging world-wide Civilizational Parties, only these are capable to confront Islamist Imperialism (such as the already defeated ISIS or Daesh, in the extreme).
