prediction: in SyriaReader comment on item: The Revolt in Iran Lacks Leadership Submitted by David (United States), Dec 15, 2022 at 23:42 I think it's far more likely that Russia could stir trouble in Syria. All they have to do is stir the pot. And indeed they could play with giving Iran ICBMs. They seem to be coming awfully close to it. But to help Iran quash the protests? Russia doesn't have the manpower, and Iran also doesn't need it. There are plenty of IRGC on hand. I think a war in Syria could very well be in the offing very soon, as it serves the interests of both Iran and Russia perfectly. Many Israeli intel officials seem to have reached this conclusion. I am surprised that the public is not more aware of the threat of war in the near future. But a deployment of Russian forces to Iran itself? The Kremlin has its hands full with its own domestic situation. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
