Justin you sound just like them!Reader comment on item: Articulating American Ideals to Muslims Submitted by John Giannasca (Australia), Jan 17, 2006 at 20:17 Justin, I agree that spreading our version of democracy is full of danger but that in no way excuses the garbage that you have written. What Islam was a thousand years ago has little or no relevance to the way they make a place for themselves in the world today. That the people who practice the religion of Islam were also once quite educated and advanced for their times speaks nothing of the islamic world today. The fact that most Islamic nations are backward and depresses is, in my belief, a direct result of the religon preventing them to adapt to the modern world. All other relions have managed to do this.On the subject of the war in Iraq, you bleat the mantra that we hear over and over again. Where is your compassion for those who suffered and died at the hands of Suddam. Please dont tell me that the world is not a better place with his brand of evil eliminated. The US along with those countries that have the ability, has a humanitarian responsibility to aliviate suffering and stand up for the little guy. You know what, I dont care what motives were or were not in the case of the officials who orders the invasion. The result is that an evil man and his reigeme have been eliminated. Why dont you ask the many millions of those in Iraq who suffered or had their loved ones suffer if they are glad Suddam was overthrown. On the subject of trying to change the muslim world or tell them how to live, I agree with you. Leave them alone and let them create their own backward world where they and all like minded people can live. As soon as they try to export their kind of thinking to my world, then they should be nicly, calmy and politly told that this is not how we live in this country. If that doesn't work then up the volume, up the tone and throw political correctness out the window. The one mistake we did make in the invasion of Iraq was that it was not sooner and we did it too nicley. We should learn from this when thinking about Iran.
