Responding to Ms.DaisyReader comment on item: Articulating American Ideals to Muslims Submitted by Taha Abdulla Baharoon (United Arab Emirates), Jan 23, 2006 at 12:42 Two responses from Daisy, both dated Jan 22, one addressed to me and the other to Justin H. refer.I would like to tell Ms. Daisy to mind his language. Applying fish market or back street expressions such as his, or that of Mr. Bush for that matter, isn't appropriate at all especially now when Americans are striving for the resurrection of the US positive image. For instance, blurting out words such as "Axis of evil" or "will smoke them out of their holes" or "darkest corners o the earth" when referring to other nations while calling your own country as part of "the civilized world" is impertinence of the first degree. For your information, the US is spending billion of dollars establishing, or backing, pro-America Arab/Islamic Radio stations, TV stations, and websites, but billions of dollars allocated to such projects are often wasted by one silly remark from Dick Cheney or Donald Rumsfeld. "Old Europe" is one example of such rude expressions. It is high time Americans start worrying about their traditional rude language and take proper care in their choice of words, especially in public speeches or mass media. The politeness of the "the civilized world" lying on the other side of the Atlantic is something Americans should try to emulate.
