Syria's Fear of Nuclear ResponseReader comment on item: [Is Israel] Winning by retreating? Submitted by Paul Jones (United States), May 23, 2002 at 12:27 Though the "ophthamologist" who runs Syria may use old-school anti--Semitism and public bravado about Syria's non-conventional capabilities against Israel, I think even the son-of-the-father must know that if Syria dared to use chemical or biological weapons against Israel (along with a high Israeli casualty count), a country founded to protect Jews fron EVER being gassed again, the chance of a severe nuclear retaliation would be inevitable. That's why I beleive that the other paper-tiger, Saddam, did not hit Israel with any scuds armed with chemical war-heads...the risk of severe nuclear retaliation would have been a bit much for the "Lion of Islam" to bear.
