imposing victory

To Mr. Pipes,

I agree with many of your observations regarding victory and imposing one's will on the enemy. But I do disagree with your not including deaths and impoverishment.

The Arab enemy understands these two concepts very well. Real victory is no longer against formal opposing armies. Since this is a "people's war" Israel MUST accept that it is at war with a lot of people. It must accept the massive use of force against such people.

It will mean a lot more killing, destruction, displacement and impoverishment. I realize that you are not a military man but I do not say this in a negative way. There aren't many Winston Churchills any more.

Israel must also accept Islam's perceptions of victory and loss. It is well known that any concession is seen as victory to the Arabs.

The current wall is NOT an imposition on the arabs. It is an imposition on Israel.

I am afraid that the only real solution will not include the current wall, but will inevitably be the reasserting of Israel proper to include "Gaza and the West Bank" as part of valid state with rational geographic borders dictated by Israel. Large numbers of moslem arabs must be relocated outside these borders. Let the UN prepare for this next humanitarian crisis as well as they are doing in Darfur (sorrry, that remark wasn't necessary).

Even existing moslem arab populations within today's Israel will tax the country sooner or later just as this crisis affects Europe today.

Isreal sooner or later will have to fight the next "peoples's war" against the arab moslems of the West Bank and Gaza and win once and for all. Isreal will have to bite the political bullet and take all the International heat as it always does, but in the end it is better to be respected as a victor than pitied as a victim.

I know that these arguments are not new. I tire of Israelis and non-Israeli Jews agonizing over every consideration and possible nuance. The arabs do not. In this they are right.
