Vehement Disagreement with MandelbaumReader comment on item: A Better World[, Explains Michael Mandelbaum] Submitted by Sy Steinberg (United States), Dec 27, 2002 at 10:42 Mandelbaum's utopia does not exist in that we say we're a democracy but act differently to the world of Islam. We don't care what kind of political regime we support as long as that regime has a large supply of oil and permits our economic growth. The Saudis are a despicable lot, yet we (Pres Bush) invites them to his ranch. We're inconsistent in our philosophical approach with any government as long as they provide us with the goods we need to promote our economic growth. When communism was our enemy we also stood in concert with any regime that opposed communism no matter what feudalism they perpetrated upon their people. We're flip-flop artists and continue to dance in the same manner. When we get an energy policy and long-range plan we may head down a righteous path.
