Reader comment on item: Here's what [Hussam Ayloush of] CAIR doesn't say about me - or its record

Submitted by Gabriel Grosso (Italy), Jan 2, 2003 at 16:11

I am not American and I don't know enough about CAIR. However, living in London, I have came across similar organisations. From what I have read, CAIR tries to ban debate about Militant Islam. In Europe, we have similar organisations but they are much more extreme. CAIR seems to be a bit cleverer than Britain's Al-Muhajiroun. In fact, Al-Muhajiroun is violent and preaches hatred; CAIR is probably just as extreme but it adopts different techniques. The words 'racist' and 'Islamophobic' are used as weapons to silence critics of Muslim Extremists. CAIR conveniently forgets that Daniel Pipes distinguishes between traditional Muslims- whom he respects- and the extremists. Daniel Pipes respects traditional Islam. He denounces Muslim Extremists like CAIR and Al-Muhajiroun.

In 1989, Francis Fukuyama said that the end of communism meant the 'end of ideology'. He couldn't have been more mistaken. Fascism and communism have disappeared during the twentieth century. Today, Militant Islam provides the only coherent ideology. It is totalitarian because it takes all aspects of a person's life. It is also totalitarian because it starts wars of conquest. Sudan and other parts of Africa are currently being subjected by a war of aggression carried out in the name of Militant Islam. Muslim Extremists want to shut up their opponents (including ordinary non-totalitarian Muslims).

Daniel Pipes is entitled to denounce the totalitarian and aggressive ideology of Militant Islam. He is not Islamophobic.
