Musharraf's speeches on joining war on terrorism with USA after 9/11Reader comment on item: A Nike e o 11 de Setembro Submitted by Jaladhi (United States), Sep 13, 2006 at 11:35 You must watch Musharraf. This guy is slippery. Right after 9/11 when he decided to cooperate with USA, he gave two speeches, one in English for the West and the second in Urdu for his countrymen. In the English version, of course, he told us the reason for joining the alliance against terrorism(read Muslim terrorism) as a good citizen of the world community(not exactly his words, but I am giving the gist of it). Actually, he had no choice under the American pressure and he foresaw bombing of his country, if he did not cooperate. Also, the lure of getting American aid as well some military equipment to fight wars against its arch-enemy India in future was far too great to let this opportunity slip away. For that he was prepared to make alliance with the devil. The second speech by Musharraf was given in Urdu to his countrymen. He said not to be worried about helping Americans since these kind of treaties are done for the benefit of Pakistan. He reminded them that their prophet had also signed peace treaties with the enemies when it benefited him. In the same vein, his fellow citizens should trust him for signing this treaty with Americans. He exhorted them that Pakistan was considered a "fort of Islam" in the world and he will not do any thing to harm this image. Now it is obvious what his real intentions were to help USA. I wonder, how many in the West and our government leaders fighting the war on terror are aware of this speech by Mushy in Urdu? This speech is a matter of public record and could be accessed if desired, perhaps by searching on Google.com . Musharraf has cooperated with us since then fairly well, and caught many lower level commanders of al Qaeda. but the big fishes, bin Laden and Zawahiri are still roaming free in Pakistan. Did you notice, Musharraf used to come to USA after catching these terrorists and got 100 million or more dollars each time and he also managed to get the deal revived for those F-18 fighter planes which was frozen after Pakistan tested/exploded nuclear devices. Musharraf has already obtained aid worth more than a billion dollars from USA for Pakistan since 2001. If Americans offer him one billion dollar each for bin Laden and Jawahiri, I am sure these guys will be shipped to USA the very next day. After all they are, probably, living in his basement?? A mere 25 million dollars for each of them won't do the trick. So, you may like Mushy now but for how long?
