Reader comment on item: To End the [Palestinian] Violence

Submitted by E. J. Blumberg (United States), Jan 8, 2003 at 23:21

Dear Dr. Pipes,

First, I fully support your Campus Watch concept. It is long overdue.

Second, While this concept is speculative, I consider it to be very likely true but unkown to the majority of observers. Their are two types of Anti-Semitic violence. The first is "spontaneous" violence by an Islamist, who responds to his or her private hatred with a violent act. The shooting at the Los Angeles Airport is an example. The second is "commercial" violence, purchased by supplying the funds to pay the salaries of the planners and their supplies, weapons, materials for suicide equipment, and last but not least the payments to the successful terrorists or the relatives of the suicides.

I wish the Israeli government would publicize the payments (in Dollars or Shekalim) received or would have been received by terrorists arrested by the Government. Also, public notice of the prison sentences received by those arrested might deter would-be terrorists.

Finally, I believe that we will not see the end of either type of terrorism until two events occur:
1. The U.S. purchases no further petroleum from the middle east. We must either become more energy efficient, produce our own petroleum or other energy sources or purchase it elsewhere. While this will end commercial violence it will not affect spontaneous anti-Jewish violence which has been occurring long before the State of Israel existed.
2. The only effective means to end spontaneous violence: Radicalized Jihadist Moslems must be deportd from israel and possibly the United States and western Europe. While this seems "monstrous" there is no other visible solution to group misbehavior.

Your response is invited,

E. J. Blumberg.
