Embry-Riddle MSA and PaintballReader comment on item: Islamist Paintball, Anyone? Submitted by Mahmoud Khatib (United States), Oct 15, 2006 at 22:19 Mr. Pipes, As the former MSA President of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, I organized the Embry-Riddle MSA paintball trips which you and Front Page Magazine refer to. I am shocked and appalled that you consider this suspicious or somehow related to terrorism. The Embry-Riddle MSA is not affiliated with ANY terrorist organization and does not support or engage in ANY terrorist activity, period. Our MSA paintball trips, as with all of the recreational activities we host (BBQ, soccer, beach trips, go-karting, etc.) are EXCLUSIVELY FOR THE PURPOSE OF FUN. Our MSA Islamic Awareness events are for the purpose of Islamic education, interfaith dialogue, and mutual understanding. Any claims that our MSA sponsors paintball trips for the purpose of "Jihad training" is categorically false, and quite frankly, absurd. In order to cut down on the growing Islamophobia in this country and increase interfaith tolerance and respect, I ask that you please do not single out our MSA for innocent recreational activities that many other campus clubs engage in. Thank you, Mahmoud Khatib Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. Comments are screened and in some cases edited before posting. Reasoned disagreement is welcome but not comments that are scurrilous, off-topic, commercial, disparaging religions, or otherwise inappropriate. Daniel Pipes replies: I merely cited information in "Paintballing for Allah" at FrontPageMag.com; your issue is with the authors of that article. If they agree they made a mistake, I will note that on my blog. But it may be of interest to my readers that Mahmoud Khatib started a common interest group on Facebook called "Supporters of Shariah Law and the Restoration of the Caliphate." It is supported by 165 members and its description is as follows:
The Caliphate lasted from 632 - 1924. Islam is not just a religion; Islam is a way of life. Islam sets rules on buisness, trade, war, courts, marriage, divorce, banking, inheritence, and every aspect of life. A Muslim's faith is not limited to his heart or his home; it is in everything he does and everything a Muslim state does. How does a country make its laws? If we take the USA, for instance, its constitution and laws are based upon the moral principles and beliefs of its people. By the same token, a Muslim country should have laws which represent the moral principles and beliefs of its people, and that is Shariah Law. Muslims, if they were truly free and had democracy, would overwhelmingly support Shariah Law and the restoration of the Islamic Caliphate. It is for this very reason that the United States of America supports pro-Western DICTATORSHIPS in the Middle East. Even still, a revolution is slowly spreading across the Islamic world. Muslims are taking back their governments bit by bit. Take a look at the last two years... Palestine: Hamas (an Islamic party) beat Fatah (a secular party) and won the election. Somalia: The Union of Islamic Courts has finally brought peace to Mogidishu and defeated the thug militias that terrorized the people. The Islamic Courts have overwhelming support from Somalis. Egypt: Despite Husni Mubarak taking extreme measures to rig the elections in favor of his own regime (according to all international monitors), the Muslim Brotherhood (Islamic party) made huge gains. Iraq: Despite the on-going American occupation, the Shia religious coalition dominated the elections and the secularists won very few votes at all. Free the Muslim Ummah. Apply Shariah Law. Restore the Caliphate. << Previous Comment Next Comment >> Reader comments (17) on this item
