War on Terrorism through the eyes of a soldierReader comment on item: Analyst Calls for Redefinition of 'War on Terror' Submitted by Shae Jones (United States), Feb 12, 2003 at 19:43 I am an American Soldier and each day my fellow soldiers prepare for War. I've seen my friends, my husband, and family get ripped away from their loved ones to fight. I am not bitter that they must go and fulfill their duties to the Army and our Great Country. What I am upset about is all the protesting and picketing outside of military bases/posts. I understand that American civilians are scared of War but if we don't go now we could get attacked while we are all sleeping sound in our beds at home with our families. Could you really go to bed at night feeling safe when a nuclear bomb and a multitude of biological and chemical agents are being created, expanded for use? Picketing is so offensive to this country's soldiers. Do you really think the majority of the soldiers want to deploy to the middle east and face death right in the face. All protesting does outside of military bases is upset the soldiers because we didn't choose to fight. We didn't wake up one day and decide that we hate Iraq. We don't make those decisions because we don't have that power. If you don't like what is happening, go protest in Washington where you might make a difference. as for your military, leave us out of it. All we do is serve and defend this country. We live, sleep, and breath the reality of the enemy, his capabilities, and our possible intanglement with torture and death. Please, all we ask is for some appreciation and respect. As for Allies, we have no allies. It was evident after September 11, this Country is on its own.
