Take it from an ItalianReader comment on item: Saddam on death row Submitted by Octavio (Italy), Dec 2, 2006 at 17:39 Putting Mussolini to death was the easy way out for Italy. A Mussolini trial would have killed off Italy's chances to become the wonderful nation that it is today. Mussolini's death was quick and it solved a lot of problems. Keeping him in jail would have cost Italy a very high price, in terms of internal divisions and violence. I don't know Iraq well enough. But, if you are drawing the Saddam- Mussolini parallel, then the dictator should be executed ASAP, in order to allow the country to move on.
