We're our own worst enemy...

Sadly, it is necessary to recognize that in Israel, we, ourselves, are our own worst enemy.

We elected these dangerous self-serving yahoos who lead us.

They weren't forced on us. We chose them -- either because we preferred to ignore reality, didn't bother to inform ourselves of the facts, didn't bother to vote, or -- worst of all -- chose to believe in the fairy tale of "peace", if we would just cede our enemies a little bit more, be patient, and turn the other cheek, as the Pope lauded us for doing.

It's much more pleasant, of course, to blame Arafat's minions, Abu Mazen, all the terrorists in training, and their fanatical supporters all over the world. But the sad truth is, if it weren't for the stupidity of our enemies, Israel would have ceased to exist a long time ago.

The fact that we're still here has nothing at all to do with our own tactical brilliance, courage or fortitude -- let alone that of our leaders. It's because our enemies were too stupid to accept any one of the 'peace' proposals forced upon Israel by some Western power. If the Arabs had accepted, Israel would have been fatally weakened, and they could have swooped in for the kill. But Arafat walked out -- and others have followed suit. It's because of their rejection that we still exist.

The really sad thing is, the government of Israel has become so corrupt that good people are no longer wiling to serve. Which means there really isn't anyone on the political playing field who's likely to be much better than the silly Prime Minister we have right now.

Well, it's Chanukah. We aren't permitted to depend on miracles, but here we are, in the same position we've found ourselves any number of times in our long history: backed into a corner, with no earthly help on the horizon...

I don't know. If I were Him, I'd be getting pretty tired of us.
