Reason for QuestionsReader comment on item: How Consequential Are 9/11 Conspiracy Theories? Submitted by collegegirl (United States), Mar 7, 2007 at 01:19 I completely agree with Professor Mark Fenster's comment in which he states that, "people are now looking back at 9/11 with much more skepticism than they used to." The United States of America is most definitely, and rightly so, looking at 9/11 with much more scrutiny than in the past. What I have trouble agreeing with, however, is your position that it is a negative thing to question our government. I mean, after all, how many of these people do we know personally? For all we know, these people who lead our country could be lying like a rug to our entire great nation in order to get what they want. In believing that our government did not initiate, go along with, or have anything to do with the attacks of 9/11, one would have to assume that our government had absolutely no motive in doing so. If we stop and examine this a little more in depth (which it seems that approximately 36% of those polled subjects did) it is quite probable that our government had something to do with this attack. I am quite certain that there were several economic benefits of this 9/11 attack. This could provide our country with an opportunity to rebuild as has been suggested by advocates of the 'New Pearl Harbor' idea. All I am trying to say is that I think it is perfectly acceptable and, in fact, should be encouraged to further delve into the world we live in. Examine our leaders and not take what they say as the truth just because they say it is. I don't feel that people holding onto this conspiracy idea are simply searching for an answer to make it all make sense, they are simply looking deeper into their surroundings.
