Anticipating the Role of Religious LeadersReader comment on item: Arguing over "Does Israel Need a Plan?" Submitted by Mel Miller (United States), May 7, 2003 at 12:25 ...In John Paul II's book of 1972 concerning the results of Vatican II, "Sources of Renewal," the "Ecumenical Attitude" includes the Muslims of developing countries under the canopy of the universal "People of God." P.306,310,311. "All people share a common destiny, namely God." The Declaration of the Vatican Council was that awareness of linking various religions "gives a sense of unity and a disposition to overcome resistance on both sides ... the Church has a high regard for the Muslims ..."Conservatives reject the possibility of "establishing on earth the one Body of Christ into which all should be fully incorporated who belong in any way to the people of God." P.317. Yet this, in my view, is exactly what will develop before peace comes to the Middle East.
