Am I missing something?

Reader comment on item: Daniel Pipes, peacenik

Submitted by John W. McGinley (United States), May 8, 2003 at 13:05

When I read Daniel Pipes I find nothing controversial in what he says. He is calmly and accurately speaking the truth. What surprises me -- because it is not simply based in intellectual disagreement with Pipes -- is the venonous reaction which his wiritings (and even being) generates in so many people, especially in Academia. We live in a world, it seems, wherein intellectual denial and even intellectual insanity threatens global political discourse with the possibility of horrifying consequences. Thus there is a MORAL need for people like Daniel Pipes. And there is a correlative moral need for lesser lights such as myself to stand up and support not only his intellectual acuity, but also his courage. I commend the Jerusaelm Post for speaking out. Also I commend President Bush for making this choice to put Pipes on the Board or Committee referred to in the article. If part of my tax dollar is to be used at all for such Boards/Committees, then people such as Pipes need to be on those Boards and Committees. John W.
