Greece Vs TurkeyReader comment on item: A New Axis: The Emerging Turkish-Israeli Entente Submitted by Kostas (United Kingdom), May 20, 2007 at 19:02 Hi, I wouldnt like to play games like we are the best, we are smart etc. In case of war between Greece and Turkey many things will sound. To understand that we need to go to the past and see what happened with the past wars ie 1922, cyprus war etc. In my opinion the outcome of the war is dependent from: politics, the army, the strategy and many other things. I will try to explain these things: Army: Turkey has a massive army, this is fact. I think is number 8 in the world. The important thing to the army isn't how big your army is but the quality of your army, the weapons technology etc. For example there are missiles that can create more damage or there are more aqurate weapons. In this case I believe that Greece has better quality of army and this is mainly bcs there is the need to be an equality with the massive Turkish army. Another important thing is the strategy shows that few can win many with a good strategy plan. ie Greece has missiles in strategic places that can eliminate the advantage Turkey has from the bigger number of f16. Also the geographical parameter is important. ie in Thraki there are mountains, rivers and it is difficult for someone to access. Political: This is one of the most important. even if you have big army, it is important which country the "big powers" will support. At the moment the Leader is USA. Russia is a big power as well which coming back and gain power all the time, but at the moment nobody can say that USA isn't the leader. In Cyprus war I know for facts that USA and UK wanted Turkey to win the war. According to UK's foreign office during the war UK supported the Turkish military. Other reasons are the problems you have with the neigbors and if duing a war they will get the advantage to attack you so you will have more enemies to fight. Econimic reasons are also important. As I said before war it is a complicated thing and many things count. In my opinion, Between Greece and Turkey there is an Equality. Also a war between there two nations will be catastrophic for both. A good site that I advise to read is this one : http://www.kapatel.gr/matrix/science/eemet/scenario.htm even if it is old I believe that still is present the reality. Thanks
