Will the polititians get us out of it?Reader comment on item: The West Stands Up for Its Customs Submitted by Andrew Martin (United Kingdom), Jun 4, 2007 at 06:03 Sadly, I cannot see the polititians we have "leading" us solving the problems which have resulted from the disastrous experiment of multiculturalism at all. I feel very pessimistic about the future because we are represented by weak and dishonest politicians whose instinct is always to appease fanatics at the cost of our own hard-won freedoms. The secularisation of our society, from which many of the benefits of modern western civilisation have stemmed, has taken hundreds of years and much inlellectual courage to achieve. The Islamic world seems to be moving in the opposite direction to this enlightenment and we now have the worst of all possible worlds- a home-grown enemy within commited to a fanatically self-righteous idelogy of murderous religious extremism which seeks to impose Islam universally by force.
