funny , with all this oil and they are still " poor " . Why ?Reader comment on item: The Curse of Oil Wealth Submitted by Phil Greend (Canada), Jun 8, 2007 at 03:05 Many people in the muslim world live poorly. They do not have many things and are less fortunate than many of us. Even though huge amounts of money have come in over the past 5 decades. The money is not spread around as much as it is here . This is due to the fact that very little is produced in the muslim world , no television , no computers , no medical equipement. All of these things that some cultures invent and then manufactor are not present in muslim countries. The islamic system does not allow this to happen much like communism did not invent much or really produce things. Thoughts and speech are strickly controled through islamic teachings and culture. In order to invent something new , one must see a different way of doing things . In a free society this is considered a good thing , in a stunted culture it is frowned upon or even punished. The islamic people need to open their minds and reject hate and limits imposed by the koran. They are fully able to have success if they have freedom of thought and freedom of speech.
