the statement.Reader comment on item: [Mosul and] Iraq's Next War Submitted by Chris Mantas (Greece), Nov 1, 2007 at 06:19 Daniel states in one point "Despite the presence of several Turkish battalions quasi-permanently stationed in Iraq, a rejuvenated PKK began cross-border attacks in Turkey in 2004, eventually killing thousands" Surely PKK did not kill "thousands" after 2004 and there was a cease fire till a year ago. They were some terror attacks from islamists, individual Kurdish group and even from the Army (remember Diyakabir bombing which was ordered directly from Buyukanit [1]) but PKK was not involved on any of those. PKK organised few attacks against military but not against civilian targets. PKK offered a truce and to negotiate but it was denied from the Turkish government that it's obvious that does not want to end this by starting talks with PKK. Instead it ban all Kurdish political parties like DEHAP - KADEP that had won the 7% on previous elections. 1 - http://www.turkishdailynews.com.tr/article.php?enewsid=49228 " In the indictment prepared by former Van Prosecutor Ferhat Sarıkaya, it was claimed that there was a wider conspiracy involving senior officials in the military, with serious accusations leveled against Land Forces Commander Gen. Yaşar Büyükanıt. The prosecutor said Gen. Büyükanıt had tried to influence a judicial process by praising one of the officers found guilty as a "good soldier," and abused his powers by setting up an illegal organization to wreck Turkey's European Union membership negotiations."
