Much ado about nothing

The most recent international conference intended to reach peace between Israel and the Palestinians, or Israel and the Syrians, or was it Israel and the Arab world, or whatever, has come to a conclusion. And once again we hear the singing of peace is in reach, love is in the air, or something about how peace is within our grasp. Condaleeza Rice even told us, again her silly comparison, that her oppression as an African American in her youth gives her a real understanding of the powerlessness of the Palestinians when they are searched at Israeli passage points. Of course Condi has never met anyone, African American or Palestinian, who carried an explosive device around their waist, or a pipe bomb in their knapsack, in order to murder large numbers of innocent people either, but I could be wrong.

However, more appropo to the fact that no Arab or Moslem will ever officially, publicly, and perhaps even privately admit that Israel is a Jewish State and has every right to exist and prosper in the Middle East, our distaff Israeli Foreign Minister, Tzipi Livni, publicly whined that she was being treated like a pariah by all the Arab and Islamic delegates to the conference. Unlike Condi, a shallow and juvenile American politician who seems to be badly misinformed or simply ignorant as to the nature of the Arab Israeli conflict, Ms. Livni as a native born Israeli really should have no illusions regarding the blood hatred that the Arab and Moslem world have towards her country Israel.

There are many sane and sober Israelis who, unlike our leaders, understand that a bad deal with the Palestinians will be worse by several magnitudes than no deal at all. Even as I write this the Olmert government and the Israel Defence Forces are planning a massive military assault on the Hamas terrorist controlled Gaza Strip, a military incursion which could result in thousands of Palestinian casualties or thousands of Israeli casualties, depending on how the attack is carried out. And keep in mind that the terrorist takeover in the Gaza district was the result of a bad Israeli deal with unrealistic Israeli and international expectations.
