Reader comment on item: Accept Israel as the Jewish State?

if israel becomes a jewish state, how can it then be referred to as "the only democracy in the middle-east"?

Becomes the Jewish state? But it has been precisely that since inception. And it is also democratic. There is no contradiction here, anymore than Greece being a Christian state.
