Teddy Bear Intifada - or outright jihad?Reader comment on item: Not Child's Play: The Teddy-Bear Intifada Submitted by Mauice (Israel), Dec 4, 2007 at 03:37 What occured in Kartoum Sudan regarding a really respected and dedicated teacher, is nothing more than a recurrence of the 1884 Seige of Kartoum when British General Charles Gordon, himself a believer in peace between the West and the Muslims, was killed by forces led by the fanaticl Muhammad Ahmad Mahdi Madiyah, who considered himself a recarnation of the Mahdi - Islams' messiah. Ms. Gibbons did absolutley nothing wrong, in Western, non-Islamic eyes that is. If Muslims as so insulted by a teddy bear being named after their Prophet ,this being the most popular male name for Muslims, by the way , even in the U.K., then without a doubt Islam is a completely intolerable religion that accepts no others. In light of this, Ms. Gibbons was really expelled and not pardoned. The Sudanese President, due to what is happening in the Darfur province, and fearing too much adverse world opinion, simply allowed her to return to the U.K. It's unlikely she will ever return to Sudan and it's definitely their loss and not her's. The Sudanese, like other Islamic dominant countries, including of course Saudi Arabia, have a long way to go before they can truely say they are a tolerent people. And judging from what is currently happening in their country, especially in the south and in Darfur, this will most likely not happen - if ever.
