The Real EnemyReader comment on item: The Guantánamo Arrests – What Do They Mean? Submitted by Kyle Gosnell (United States), Oct 2, 2003 at 07:30 I find your pointing toward a real enemy correct, in as much , a way of at least not holding our head in the sand , as "many" would have us do. I refer to the "Many", meaning those who have slight of hand involvement, old style peacenics who would sell their Mother if it would all go away, political correctness types. We Americans are viewed as blundering , mean minded Idiots, who use brute force to solve everything. The ones now who face us, are elitist , and not necessarily all Moslem, but have the common view WE must be wrong, if WE approve of it. You can call it the Ugly American syndrome gone wrong, where actually ,using average persons around the Globe, it is a mix of local propaganda, and our own Media's penchant for showing only the extremes of our society. You are correct in as much Militant Moslems are the Enemy , BUT, lets expand this to the proper level in the whole scheme of what is happening. From my meager understanding of the Koran, it's against the rules to Steal, kill innocents, lie, that sort of thing, these are "outlaws", yet, if these criminals Are Moslem, or some variation of it, the Rest of the Arabic Moslem World approve of them over their victims, especially if some Militant Cleric, or Higher Religious leader is behind it, no matter how bizarre the act. Case in point is the torture of the Stewardesses onboard the Airliners that were used to attack the Trade Towers, to get the Pilots to come out of the Cockpits. I know this has been smothered by even our own media as so horrific, even they are afraid to make a Deal out of it, yet, the Arabic World stands behind their "Brothers" who sliced and diced innocents, using their screams to achieve their goal. Mr Pipes, we have an Enemy, it is the WAY of thinking at a basic level, not just militant Moslems, as their Leaders in their faith, will not condemn the crazies who are Our active enemy, rather must for some reason , laud them as brothers, who they cannot turn their backs on. WE seem to have divided into two different Races, as far apart in thinking , and basic interacting , as any Race we might encounter in the Void of the Universe. Though we are Bipedal, breath oxygen, we are apart in understanding, and basic way of thinking. I do not advocate war, it not only harms innocents, it destroys the environment, and we should at our level of civilization , be able to resolve conflicts in a better way, unfortunately, we are forced, in a brutal way to protect our citizens, from those who are brutal, as well as those who manipulate stealthily, and make it seem so. I find it an interesting aspect for scholars at this time, to observe this era of our development, and should be interesting material for historians at some point. The real thought in my mind now, is who these scholars will be, as well as will it be over who's bones, or civilization? Make no mistake, some of our avowed enemies would prefer it to be our bones !!!! ( Mr. Pipes , Do not be swayed by the thinking of our enemies, nor allow frustration get at you, they simply cannot understand our point of view, as it's too alien to them .. . ) Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
