What about Saddam?

Reader comment on item: Let Iraqis run Iraq

Submitted by Philip J. Cherry (United States), Oct 16, 2003 at 23:18

Dear Mr. Pipes - I have enjoyed your book, "Islam reaches America." I feel I'm educated now about the different factions of Islam and who the real enemy is. Thank you.

My questions - If we pull our troops out of Iraq sooner rather than later as it seems you suggest; won't that make Saddam and his henchmen feel more confident in their ability to return to power? Why can't we find him?

** Terrorism coming over the border - why is President Bush and his Military so scared to take out the Macaw valley with our bombs? What are we waiting for? The hotbed of terrorism is in this valley. In my opinion, Terrorism starts and ends with Syria and Iran and stretches to Saudia Arabia.

Another Question for you - why is it taking the Army so long to build simple bridges in Iraq? ...

thank you,

Daniel Pipes replies:

I recommend a pull-back from the Iraqi cities, not from Iraq as a whole; and I advocate US forces continuing to search for the former leadership.
