Gaza is a lot like the famous Tar BabyReader comment on item: How to Turn Gaza Over to Egypt Submitted by Ken Besig (Israel), Feb 7, 2008 at 11:51 Unfortunately, getting rid of the Gaza Strip is probably easier said than done. As I am sure Dr. Pipes is aware, there is nothing the International Community likes more than hammering Israel over her alleged injustices and oppressions of the Palestinians of the Gaza Strip. Thus even if Israel were to relinquish any control whatsoever over the Strip, those same International voices would still find ways to condemn Israel over the Strip's fate. Of course, and of far greater importance, is the simple fact that Egypt has absolutely no interest whatsoever in taking Gaza off Israel's hands. Indeed, the more trouble that the Gazan's cause Israel the better Egypt likes it. Furthermore, and even more seriously, if Egypt were to take over political and security control of the Gaza Strip, it would require vastly more manpower to do so. This in itself would require re opening the Camp David Peace Treaty, the most important provision of which was to strictly limit to a very small amount the number of Egyptian police, soldiers, or other security personnel in the Sinai Peninsula. This point is not to be taken lightly since if the Treaty were to be renegotiated on this issue, then all the other issues would be open for renegotiation as well, and Israel would not be dealing with an Anwar Sadat from a position of strength with the Sinai in her hands, but rather with a vicious and dangerous Hosni Mubarak who would love to threaten Israel with his armed forces in the Sinai. Moreover, and I am sorry I am beating this point to death, but Egyptian security personnel in the Gaza Strip could and would become a serious impediment to any Israeli reprisal action that Israel may need to take in response to some Palestinian terrorist atrocity, the Egyptians could easily become what is now commonly known as "human shields." Then there are the Israelis themselves, that is of course, the Post Zionist and Left wing Israelis who would demand that the legal system here prevent any move which would take Gaza out of Israeli hands. If anyone including Dr. Pipes needs any further proof of the perfidy of Left wing Israelis and our legal system, for the past month the Israeli security establishment has been trying to impose fuel and power sanctions on the Gaza Strip in retaliation for the firing of rockets into Israeli settlements, kibbutz cooperatives, and towns which border the Strip. Those Left wing Israelis, with the wholehearted support of the Israeli media, have made several successful legal appeals, supposedly based on humanitarian concerns, to the Left wing Israeli Supreme Court and obtained legal orders preventing any economic, fuel, or power sanctions on the Strip of any kind for any reason. Just think how these same treacherous and dangerous Left wingers and their supporters in the Israeli legal system and media would do everything in their considerable power to block any attempt by Israel to surrender control of the Strip. We would see pictures International and local media of Palestinian babies and old people suffering because they couldn't get Israeli medical treatment, or of Palestinians going hungry because Israel had stopped providing food supplies, or just like we saw last month, candle light demonstrations because Israel had allegedly stopped supplying diesel fuel for Palestinian generators and cut off electricity to the Strip(neither of which actually happened by the way.) No Dr. Pipes, very much like Uncle Remus' famous Tar Baby which Brer Rabbit punched, kicked, pushed, and tried his best to throw away, we Israelis are stuck with the Gaza Strip and all the problems that miserable hole entails.
