Klein-Halevi overly optimistic about the lessons learned from GazaReader comment on item: Yossi Klein Halevi: Israel's Withdrawal from Gaza a "Disaster" Submitted by MHL (United States), Mar 10, 2008 at 23:22 First, substantial numbers of Israelis - especially among the intelligentsia, the professoriat, the mass media, and the judiciary - continue to embrace significant elements of the "Palestine" narrative and are willing to make dangerous concessions to the Arab enemy. Second, the government too appears convinced that weakness will bring greater rewards from the Americans and the Europeans and is therefore unwilling to undertake the military responses necessary to prevent Gaza from becoming another Lebanon. They are already engaged in informal negotiations with Hamas. Sadly, Klein-Halevi , who at the time reluctantly favored withdrawal from Gaza, is unwilling to recognize that Israeli Jewish society remains deeply divided over how to confront the growing Arab threat.
