Justification for profilingReader comment on item: A Call for Intelligent Profiling[ by Frederick Schauer] Submitted by Sidney Retsky (United States), Dec 30, 2003 at 22:31 Dear Dr. Pipes, Although I have never written to your before, I am one of your most ardent admirers. For that reason I am surprised that you seem to agree with Schauer's reasoning. His willingness to back down from profiling Middle Easterners shows the kind of weakness that our country was known for prior to the election of George W. Bush.It was a costly lession that we learned on 9/11, that weakness encourages our enemies to test our strength of will. If we follow his advice we will be regressing to that unfortunate period when we "felt everyone's pain". Not to mention the enormous inconvenience to the millions of inocent passengers who would have to come to the airport 30 minutes earlier. Sincerely, Sidney Retsky Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
