Re:profilingReader comment on item: A Call for Intelligent Profiling[ by Frederick Schauer] Submitted by Dan Katcher (United States), Dec 31, 2003 at 13:02 It seems axiomatic to me that profiling is an appropriate and useful tool given our current circumstances. Unfortunately, it has been subject to the sterilization process of political correctness, thereby losing is discriminatory power. To suggest that race is is an irrelevant factor is simply political correctness taken to its illogical conclusion. When lives are at stake, political correctness has no business being in the equation. While all muslims are not terrorists, almost all terrorists are indeed muslims, usually of middle eastern background. To turn a blind eye to this fact is the height of irresponsibility. Profiling must include those factors which give the process its power and should not be limited by the irrelevant notion that someones feelings may be hurt. Hurt feelings are a temporary problem, death is permanent.Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
