MisconceptionsReader comment on item: Bridges TV, a Wife's Beheading, and Honor Murder Submitted by Dr. Nabeel Sheikh (Australia), Jun 25, 2008 at 08:03 I totally respect your view of the TV and its broadcasts. However, I wondered if you had actually had a chance to view your own perspective from a third person's angle. I am not a third person since I am seeing your opinion from a Muslim's angle but I definitely can move from my point and imagine for a moment that I may be wrong in not being able to agree to what you opine. Anyways, before I do that, I'd like to say a few things: The very objection to the opinion of someone suggesting "jews leave ME and move to europe" is very rightful on your behalf. However, I'll say it is still an opinion of one person (and actually may be a lot more people) but it IS a school of thought and a public/personal sentiment can be disagreed with. It can not be made a reason to denounce a TV channel and question its integrity as an electronic medium. The reason that someone suggested a conspiracy theory about 9/11 can't undermine the TV channel's sanctity altogether. Dear, at least BBC and ABC have aired, in the recent times, at the least, 2-3 documentaries each with detailed facts trying to float this theory of some non "so called muslim militants" being involved in 9/11. I don't say those documentaries were actually correct but I can't say with conviction that they were incorrect. And this is not the point at all. My point is if the liberal and established media like them have the right to air such programs spanning over atleast an hour each, why can't this channel have someone make a statement like that. The sermons from "Wahabi Saudi Govt. controlled Holy Mosque in Mekkah" are including verses from the Holy Quran (as you put it). Well, the mere fact that there were verses from the Holy Quran itself and they were subtitled in English makes it a viewable programme to me and to anyone who has an interfaith respect. If any part of Holy Quran is denouncing "non believers", is it something questionable. What did you expect the Holy Quran to say? Encourage the "non believers"? Ofcourse this channel is not only trying to OR actually is presenting a Muslim perspective but it is also trying to carry out a preaching towards Muslims or any Non-Muslims (who want to listen). What about the Christian Missionaries and the masses we have on televisions here otherwise? They also undermine any non-christian act and want people to return to the faith, don't they? What is wrong with a Muslim channel with an Islamic Sermon trying to do the same to its Muslim audience? If my religion didn't tell me that I'd be at loss if I didn't believe in it and it's teachings (in totality and not only my likable parts), I'll be at a great loss, I would not only not believe in it but I sure will actually be at loss. Now, its really an unending debate. But the crux of my point is, live and let live. I'll never and trust me no true Muslim will ever approve of any act against any innocent human being. Islam very clearly denounces those who spread anarchy. There is no two opinions about that. I wish today's world could understand that. More than anyone else, if the Muslims themselves could, it would be favour to their own interests. Those people who call themselves Muslims and then drag them and their families into believing in acts of anarchy are not doing any favour to themselves or their families. Because, then people like you or any other common man is left with none but just one perspective of Muslims; TERORIST. And trust me, it is in effect, in the most strongest terms, an exact opposite of a Muslim. Try looking at the conspiracy theories...just as a practice to move from your own perspective and to learn to look at things from an entirely different angle. You'll learn to judge objectively. Please forgive me if I have said anything which has hurt anyone's feelings. Cheers Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
