Appeasement and Economic Pearl Harbor -- Russia Supplying Venezuela with Nukes -- Excuse me, Nuclear Cooperation.Reader comment on item: Appease Iran? Submitted by Sofa Sogood (United States), Sep 27, 2008 at 23:11 Appeasement. US policy has been only reactive, and hasn't been looking ahead to what 2 plus 2 is going to add up to. Rather than assessing what Russia's, next aggressive moves might be, our government has been making assumptions about what would or wouldn't ultimately be in the best interests of Russia or Iran. Obviously, their ideas of what is in their best interests is quite different from ours. Lecturing them from our point of view about their interests is ludicrous -- Putin and A'Jad don't even bother to hide the ugly snears on their faces when they speak about the US. They laugh, and rightly so. They consider themselves our enemy, and treat us so. We, in response, treat them as the grievanced misguided, with claims that need addressing, even if their grievance is our existence. Hitler found Chamberlain's weakness provocative, as tyrants always will. Our enemies are little worms, Hitler would later say. I saw them at Munich. Clifford D. May http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=NDY0ZTIwZjNiZTQ3YWM1MjNiNmM3NThhNTVlZTJmYTg=&w=MA== They don't bother to hide the expressions on their faces, nor their laughter, because it's so clear that we are blind. We refuse to see the malignance that they delight in showing openly, so why bother to hide it? Why shouldn't they enjoy the thrill of openly showing their slimy, petty feelings of superiority? We are blinded by our insistence on seeing them as our wishes reflect. Blinded to the idea that they ought to, must be, treated as the bullies and thugs that they are. Blinded to the idea that they will do as much harm as possible unless they are really roughed up and stopped. We keep hearing that, of course, WE don't want to start another Cold War. Has anyone heard Putin making a similar statement regarding the exercise of caution? It isn't the US which is starting anything. Aside from the fact that clearly Russia has its own nasty plans and belief in its own nasty interests in Europe, Eastern Europe and even South America, as far as it's relationshiop with Iran goes ... For five years, that's five years, the US has been assuming Russian friendship while pursuing Russian agreement on sanctions against Iran's nuclear program, as Russia has been simultaneously supplying Iran with nuclear materials. How absurd is that? What is our government thinking? Are they thinking? Certainly, our current Mortgage Financial Crisis is of our own making. Yet there are some questions that are not being asked, much less explored. If anyone were of a mind, such as a Financial Wizard the likes of a George Soros, the man behind Moveon.org and devoted Obama supporter, in interviews has expressed his hope, and said he'd do whatever he possibly could to see to it, that American power be diminished. If those like Soros and his like-minded financial dynamo friends wanted to do something to contribute to the diminishment of America, why wouldn't they be on the lookout for our Achilles Heel? (Soros was accused of causing the Malaysian and Asian financial debacle in the 90's by manipulating the markets. In an interview, he denied that he caused it, but said that he only took advantage of it. Have he and his cronies done the same to us?) Ditto for Russia, ditto for various world-wide Islamists who are substantially invested in our stock markets. This Mortage Crisis has been coming on for quite some time. But, what triggered it to come to a head and totally explode just now. Just during our election process, just when McCain was pulling ahead, and just when it would benefit the chances of an Obama victory? An Obama victory, which, just coincidentally, is what all of those who desire harm to come to America also desire? Warren Buffet calls this an Economic Pearl Harbor. It may well have been a deliberate attack on our weakest point. On our Achilles Heel. . Isn't it curious that this huge collapse didn't come to a head just six weeks later when it wouldn't have affected the elections? Was the Crisis brought to a head, not caused by, but brought to a head just now, by sudden Short Selling? If so, by whom? Is this an unreasonable question to ask? And if Russia, Iran and all those others wishing the downfall or diminishment of the US wanted to seize the right timing to do the most damage, wouldn't the time be now? Not only under the stress of the election process and the coming changing of administration, but the most threatening Financial Crisis faced since 1929, how would the Bush Administration now, or the next Administration taking control in a few months, be able to handle something similar to the Cuban Missile Crisis, or an Iranian nuclear test or worse? When a Russian nuclear ship parked near Venezuela, accompanied by fighter jets, it basically received a yawn from the Mainstream Media. No one asked what this could mean. The first question should have been, what are they planning? Of course, they're going to supply Venezuela with nukes. Why not? It would be a good move, considering they have been receiving no real opposition. Considering how the US has backstepped on all its warnings to Iran. Considering that there is now a demoralized President in the last days of his administration who is under the thumb of a fantasy ridden State Department. At evidence of clearly blatant and obvious aggressive behavior, the State Department's assessment is always that the action is only something benign, even from those whose intentions are surely anything but benign. This is the true spirit of appeasement. If the Russian ship parked in Venezuelan waters suddenly found itself in sight of an armed US vessel with fighter jets flying above, perhaps the following headline would never have appeared.
