re The Moderation of American MuslimsReader comment on item: The Moderation of American Muslims Submitted by Jill Neily (Canada), Apr 8, 2004 at 15:34 Dear Mr. Pipes,So what does universal health care have to do with radical Islam. I came from a country which has had universal health care since the 1940s and I live in a Canadian province which has beem implementing universal health care since the mid 60s. As far as I'm concerned it's the only way to ensure that sick people are looked after regardles of economic status and that doesn't always ensure equity but it's better than private health care which, according to statistics, costs considerably more than our public system. And I'm not a Muslim, not even sympathetic to their cause. And what about the view on morality. Let's say "North American" mores rather than "American". We pratice; serial monogomy, common law relationships, accept a holocaust on our own unborn children, same sex unions. My own church, the Anglican Church of Canada, is about to vote on a motion to allow same sex "marriages" in a few weeks and many people think the motion will pass. In fact, a petition is being circulated on the internet urging synod delegates to "share the blessing". Are the people who responded to the survey far wrong? As for affirmative action, I'm not sure. I know many institutions are weighted in favour of female applicants and as the mother of a daughter that pleases me but as the mother of two sons I hope they aren't passed over in favour of a less qualified female applicant. I suppose righting wrongs and correcting imbalances is important. Finally, I think your president is doing a good job and disagree with that large percentage who believe he is not. I suppose that's based on his support of Israel although that isn't as strong as it should be. So was the survey really worth comment? Not in my opinion! But thanks for the opportunity to respond.
