A QUESTION OF NAMESReader comment on item: The Moderation of American Muslims Submitted by DONVAN (United States), Apr 8, 2004 at 17:03 Dr. Pipes, I have a question regarding the terms used in the on-going discussion of"ISLAM " "Muslim" etc. Is it not the case that that the term"Mohammedian" is a more useful terminology to encompass the entirety of the ideology? SUNNI, SHITE, SHRIA, etc. may have nunanced meaning for politicians, academics, commentators, but all the believers follow Mohammed. "Isalm", as I understand it, is the same concept as "Zion" ie a belief construct based on notions of religion and politics. We can never "understand" the "Religion" of Islam, radical or moderate. Religion by its nature is faith, not based on reason. Ideology is a reasoned ,rational, understandable, system of thought, understandable to all hence Mohammedism. Thank you for helping us to understand this ideology. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
