Crackpots

Generally the fires are due to individual attention seeking crackpots who wish to see themselves as having some importance. It is like vandalism on a grand scale. However even the federal authorities, somewhat surprisingly, recognise that jihadists will one day adopt the idea in earnest. But then they are in a sense similar to those individuals in that they are seeking a meaning to their existence too, the people killed being to them a merely canvas on which they spray their graffitti. So it is not surprising to hear they will adopt the idea.

One common, although not uniform feature, is that sometimes the arsonists come from a firie bacakground. They learn how fires work and then use that knowledge on the dark side. Just as the 9/11 jihadists went to flying school it will be necessary to be cautious about muslims joining the volunteer fire brigades.
