Dear Anne,
What you told brings to mind John 8:44. "You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies." (NIV-UK)
Especially I like this "speaks his native language", because that's the way the prince of darkness has operated since the days of Eden. From this master of deception we never can expect truthful speech.
Another thing to remember. "For our struggle is - - - against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (Ephesians 6:12) Call it Clash of Civilizations, if you wish, but the real battle takes place between two spiritual powers.
