a people??Reader comment on item: Moshe Ya'alon's "Harsh" and "Heartless" Comment about the Palestinians Submitted by Yuval Brandstetter MD (Israel), Aug 12, 2009 at 09:00 "The Palestinians must be made to understand in the deepest recesses of their consciousness that they are a defeated people." My dear Pipes, that is impossible. Impossible for three reasons, One: they were never a people. they are a loose conglomeration of persons who sole binder is Islamist ideation of superiority over the Jew, who is nothing but an upstart Dhimmi. The quintessential Palestinian Yassir Arafat, was an Egyptian. They have nothing to do with the Land of Israel, except for the ambition to rid this land of Jews, for antisemitic racist reasons. two: Jews have declined to defeat anybody, ever. Famously, or notoriously, even King Saul, totally unbound by any PC BS, declined to decimate the Amalekites. At no time did the Jews defeat anyone in the fashion necessary to affect their complete flight from the Land of Israel. Ergo, they aint gonna start now when their whole self-regard is tied to compassion and compromise rather than to irreversible Victory. Three: What does defeat mean? in reality: It is the augmentation of the population transfer that occurred in Gaza 2005. A complete eviction of a certain race from a certain locale. Look at the faces of the Gush Katif people and there is defeat. They are still defeated. Now, real defeat means Arabs going the same way East of the Jordan, Not even you condone that, though in the deepest recesses of your consciousness you know that is the only way they will know they are defeated. Can you refute any of the above? Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please. See my article, "The Year the Arabs Discovered Palestine." 2. Whether you are right or wrong about what Jews have done in the past has no relevance for the future. The historian's fundamental insight is that things change over time. What never happened before might now happen. 3. No, defeat means crushing the will of the enemy. I don't recall that in 1975 that the North Vietnamese evicted Americans from the United States. << Previous Comment Next Comment >> Reader comments (33) on this item
