Seeming ContradictionsReader comment on item: Salam Fayyad Says Yes to Jews Living in a Palestinian State? Submitted by Singer (United States), Jan 12, 2010 at 15:24 I don't agree that Fayyad is contradicting himself depending on his audience (American and Palestinian.) Each statement is made in a different context. I think a reasonable person can also understand that a future Palestinian State that is governing former settlements whose status is now a town under Palestine with a Jewish population would treat Jewish-Palestinian Citizens with full equality, including guaranteeing their security. However, under Israeli military occupation where Settlements are expanding and interfering with the creation of a two-state solution; including the threat of their annexation into Israel, the Arab language comments do not contradict. It's a temporal matter of the current situation versus the negotiated creation of a future state and the reality of life under that new state for both Jews and Arabs. The discussion with Americans was about a future state, the words to the Arab population was about the current occupation and current settler activities. It's in the Palestinian's best interests to want an integrated society of all races and beliefs. Demilitarizing all religious factions including Muslim, Christian and Jew. Removing foreign agitators including Iran, Syria, Israel and the US. But, relying on an internal well-trained police force and military that has been properly vetted before entering service. This new force is already starting to work as realized by my recent visit to Ramallah and the heightened sense of Security. The realities of an 800 lb. gorilla to their east would help keep the Palestinian State to their agreements including the fair treatment of Jews in Settlements that were permitted to stay. No doubt this integration will take a generation or so to complete. But under peace and economic prosperity, it's amazing how quickly hatreds are set aside... Submitting....
