The mistake of Desert StormReader comment on item: Operation Desert Storm Plus 20 Submitted by Vijay (United Kingdom), Aug 4, 2010 at 07:04 The mistake of Desert Storm was not in finishing off Saddam Hussein with very little effort and maimum international co-operation. That mistake resulted in Gulf War 2, and it has cost the US dear in terms of international diplomacy, fighting Al-Queda and plain money. The reason DS is forgotten by the US media is that it's mistakes are a painful reminder of the bigger quagmire the US has got into in Iraq after 2003. If DS had finished off saddam Hussin in 1990, the US would have far more resources after 2003 to fight Al-Queda and Islamism. The refusal by George Bush Senior to continue the war by 2 more days and end Sadam's Hussein's reign is a stategic blunder of massive proportion. What could be done with very little effort was later done with 1000 times more cost. Bad , bad strategic thinking.
