Asad makes a lot of senseReader comment on item: The Ninth 9/11 Submitted by Rajeev (United States), Sep 15, 2010 at 02:01 Dear Dr Pipes: Your reader Asad from Saudi Arabia makes a lot of sense. He states that a lot of middle-eastern regimes exist because of US support and these regimes are responsible for moderate Muslims not being able to speak up their minds. Asad questions if a lot of people have courage to criticize the US foreign policy. First, let me assure Asad that the US citizens not only do have courage to criticize the US foreign policy, they have the infrastructure to "throw the bums out" (as we like to call it in the US). It is less than 2 years ago that we showed the door to a president who in our opinion picked an unnecessary war and caused a lot of destruction. Second, Asad, the fact that Obama administration recently wrote an option for Saudi Arabia to buy $60B worth of US arms --whether they need the arms or not-- did not go unnoticed from us. We took note of this fact and President Obama is under a lot of fire. And his date with the elctorate is barely two years away. Luckily in our society it does not take a lot of courage to oppose our leaders. That is why we encourage freedom of speech and so do our president(s). We want to create similar societies in the Islamic theocracies. Trust me, any president who goes to bed with dictators, will meet his due at the election time.
