Likud Seats In The Next Election

Reader comment on item: Media Distortion about Israel - One Example

The number of seats that Likud gets in the next election and who will become the next Prime Minister of Israel will depend to a great extent on what Moshe Feiglin and his coalition in Likud do and how effective Netanyahu is in again using the Israel Supreme Court in blocking Feiglin and his coalition one more time.

Netanyahu with the backing of the Israel Supreme Court last year blocked internal Likud Central Committee elections mandated by Likud Constitution. Elections that if they had been held according to the Likud Constitution would have resulted in Feiglin and his coalition gaining a lot of seats in the Likud Central Committee and maybe even taking control. If this had happened then Feiglin as the head of the largest coalition within Likud Central Committee would have become the Likud candidate for Prime Minister in the next Israel general elections.

As it stands now with the Israel Supreme court ruling new Likud Central Committee elections need never be held again. This is the equivalent of saying that the RNC or DNC could never hold internal elections.

What Feiglin does or doesn't do and how successful Netanyahu is in blocking him prior to the next Israel general elections will go a long way in determining how many seats Likud wins in the next Israel general election and who the next Prime Minister of Israel is.

P.S. Feiglin is not a right wing religious radical despite what many say of him. Feiglin's coalition consists of Israeli citizens across the full religious and socio-economic spectrum from religious to atheist and rich to poor.

A number of uninformed compare Feiglin to the late Rabbi Kahane but Kahane was far more to the right than Feiglin is.

If Feiglin were an American politician he would probably be considered a solid Conservative and not a right wing extremist
