Will Egypt pass on to IslamistsReader comment on item: Reflections on Hosni Mubarak's Resignation Submitted by B.N.Gururaj (India), Feb 16, 2011 at 22:48 Perhaps, the only positive virtue of Mubarak's rule was that he kept the country Secular, for reasons known to him best. Now that he has unseated himself, will Egypt pass to democrats, or to Islamists is the big question. Even if Egypt passes on to democratic forces in the country, how can Islamists be kept at bay? Generally, democracies have shown a weakness for Islam, and Islamists have mastered the art of subverting democracies to suit their own ends. It seems to me that fall of Mubarak might strengthen the hands of Islamists in the region, who were under check until now.
