Our Country is NOT Our GovernmentReader comment on item: Memories of John F. Kennedy's Inauguration Submitted by Mike (United States), Feb 17, 2011 at 04:24 I've got my qualms with Kennedy, and agree that nepotism hung over his administration. That said, I think he was right on a number of issues and that conflating love of country with love of government is just flat out wrong. Among other things 1) He spearheaded a significant rollback of taxes that helped liberalize the economy 2) He fought for immigration reform that ended the thoroughly racist quota system and allowed hardworking people of all ethnicities come and compete on American soil. 3) He helped along the fight for civil rights to correct one of the greatest moral failures in US history. 4) He managed to navigate the Cuban missile crisis without ending the world. Not a small achievement. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes. Original writing only, please.
