Blinded by ideology?

A good friend of mine, an Israeli, does advocacy work for Palestinian Arabs in the West Bank. I make this simple statement only to bring to light that, according to my recollection of the murder of Angelo Frammartino, the victim's parents forgave their son's murderer because their son had been mistaken for an Israeli, which somehow made the crime understandable.

But what if Mr. Frammartino really was an Israeli who was genuinely sympathetic to his Arab neighbors? By accepting the motivations behind their son's murder, Angelo Frammartino's parents deny the possibility that differences of opinion may exist within Israeli society, and have projected their own narrow, one-sided view of the situation onto Israelis.

Not even the tragedy of their son's death can dissuade them from their unquestioning ideology.
