Do Not watch for a Secular Egypt - Egypt's Destiny is Already SettledReader comment on item: Four Middle Eastern Upheavals Submitted by M. Tovey (United States), Apr 26, 2011 at 16:30 Egypt's place in the series of disruptions across the Middle Eastern frontier is significant primarily for its nexus to Israel as Israel's dilemma of who's going to strike first to take advantage of the apparent disarray in the realm of Islam. Not even the Quran can answer that one. Biblically, there are markers to watch for, but any one in series can become a front runner for Israel to watch out for. But there is a clue. Egypt will not be alone; neither will Syria, Turkey, Libya, Iran, Hamas, or Hizbollah. Wait for the Doctrine of Protection to be inaugurated against Israel. And Egypt will not be a democracy. The larger populations of Egyptians desiring democracy are expatriates abroad, ostensibly waiting for the internal strife to be resolved before considering coming home. Most will not likely be able to return until the issues regarding Israel are resolved. Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
