Khat users not likely to leave YemenReader comment on item: The Emptying of Yemen Submitted by Universalgeni (Denmark), Jun 8, 2011 at 04:59 Thank you for answering, Dr. Pipes. The nice reports says it's 40 percent of Yemen's water supply that's used for khat irrigation. Other and - it seems - more creditable reports have higher numbers. The drug users won't leave Yemen for countries that don't allow khat. In Denmark the number of Somalis are falling. This in all likelihood because the khat smuglers have a very hard time here. The Customs Control at the boarders just got a lift. Now even fewer smuglers will make it. The fact that the Somalis want khat so badly that they are willing to move just to get it tells us a lot. People from Yemen are not likely to immigrate in large numbers... Note: Opinions expressed in comments are those of the authors alone and not necessarily those of Daniel Pipes.
